Portraits are always a collaboration between subject and artist. I strive to capture the essence of a person and bring a timeless quality to the painting, that it may endure for generations to come. The setting, appropriate costume, and familiar objects often contribute to the picture, but should never dominate.
I can paint a complete portrait live and on location. Or I may start out live, then take photographs, and finish off the picture in my studio. Other times I simply work directly from photographs, whether of someone I have known or a new acquaintance. I am dedicated to the satisfied customer, and will work on a portrait for as long as it takes to get it right.
I have also drawn numerous "Instant Portraits" at fairs and gala occasions, usually lasting for 15 - 20 minutes, in pastels or colored pencils. And if the customer isn't happy with the result, I will make the desired changes, even re-do, with no obligation to pay. (So far no-one has opted for the latter!)
If you've ever considered commissioning a portrait, I hope you'll contact me so we can discuss your ideas!
